Knowing What To Expect

Matt Mills says he knows exactly what to expect from a side led by one of his former managers

Matt Mills knows exactly what to expect from Nottingham Forest when they visit the Reebok Stadium this coming Friday evening.

As a fresh faced teenager Mills was thrust into first team action during a loan spell with Bournemouth, who at the time were under the guidance of the now Forest boss Sean O’Driscoll.

Mills clearly made a lasting impression on O’Driscoll during his temporary stint on the south coast, as three years later the pair were reunited at Doncaster Rovers in two more loan moves.

“Sean’s someone I’ve worked with a couple of times in my career,” Mills said when previewing Friday’s televised clash. “I have no doubts that he’ll get them playing football, he’s a manager who likes his sides to play the game in the right way.”

Forest are so far unbeaten this season. A Capital One Cup victory over Fleetwood Town set the ball rolling before a victory via the same margin at home against Bristol City kick-started their league season.

Then, in Forest’s most recent outing, a last gasp Jordan Rhodes penalty denied O’Driscoll’s men all three points at Huddersfield.

Mills added: “It’ll be a very intense game, as our two previous outings have been. The majority of the teams coming to the Reebok this season will be looking for a scalp. We need to be ready for that, because it won’t be easy.

“We’ll need to match other sides’ physical approach and if we do that I’m confident that our quality and class will overcome teams.”
