Benik Set For Boxing Day

Striker confident side can bounce back with a win against Sheffield Wednesday

On-loan striker Benik Afobe is expecting another tough game on Boxing Day with the visit of Sheffield Wednesday, but remained confident that the side could bounce back following the recent defeat at Peterborough.

The 19-year-old Arsenal frontman made a big impact following his introduction as a substitute in the recent nine-goal thriller at London Road, winning a penalty and scoring Wanderers’ third goal of the game.

And ahead of Wednesday’s Boxing Day visit, Afobe could potentially be in line to feature from the off, with skipper Kevin Davies suspended and David Ngog struggling with a leg injury.

“I was pleased to score the goal and win the penalty at Peterborough. We were certainly pushing them all the way.

“We had great support and they were really driving us on, so it was ultimately disappointing not to get at least a point.

“We know we have worked hard and prepared well for the game against Sheffield Wednesday. We know a lot about them and the challenge they will present. It will be another tough game. They will have a good following so it will be a cracking atmosphere.

Afobe also took time to praise the impact the new manager and his staff have had since their respective arrivals, adding: “I have really enjoyed working with the manager and his staff since they came to the club.

“He has worked with a lot of young players like Nathaniel Clyne and Wilfried Zaha and I am really keen to learn as much as I can.

“We talk every day about how I can become a better player. The manager’s staff have been great in and around the players. They are always looking to help us, push us and improve all aspects of our game.”
