On-loan midfielder pleased with progress on fitness front
Jacob Butterfield was pleased to see his spell at Wanderers extended earlier this week, and pointed to his improving fitness and confidence since joining the club.
The midfielder, who initially joined on a one-month loan from Norwich in November, has agreed to stay on until the New Year after the Canaries gave the move the green light.
Butterfield is now looking forward to showing supporters more of what he is capable of – starting this weekend with the visit of Charlton to the Reebok.
He said: “I’m happy to extend the loan because I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ve made loads of progress. I feel much better in every aspect; fitness, confidence, everything; so the loan has been really beneficial.
“Bolton showed their intent at an early stage that they wanted me to stay on for a longer period of time. It was a case waiting for Norwich’s decision and seeing what they wanted me to do.
“In the end they decided it was probably best for me to stick around up here for another month and get some more game time. That’s my focus now; hopefully getting some more time on the pitch so I can continue to improve and get back to the level that I feel I should be.
“Obviously I would have liked to have had a bit more time on the pitch, but that’s the manager’s decision and as players we just need to do our best when we’re given a chance. I feel I’ve done that and hopefully I’ll be able to show people more of what I’m about in the coming month.”
Looking ahead to the clash with Chris Powell’s Addicks, Butterfield added: “Charlton are a team that have come up and done well. Every team in the Championship has got good players and that means you never get an easy game; we’ll have to be at our best against them.
“But it’s a match we’re looking forward to and just like any other game we’ll be looking to get three points.”
