“We are starting to play a certain style and a structure that we can build on,” says Dougie Freedman
Dougie Freedman insists the Whites are beginning to play a style of football that will not only be attractive on the eye, but will also secure the points that will see Wanderers continue their move up the table.
Two second-half goals from substitute David Ngog secured victory over Charlton last weekend, moving the Trotters up five places to 13th in the league.
Freedman is now confident that his side can hit a winning run, and believes their new structured approach will put them in good stead as they enter the hectic Christmas period, beginning with Peterborough on Saturday.
“We are starting to play a certain style and a structure that we can build from and I am looking forward to every game we play,” Freedman said in his pre-match press conference. “I have seen us perform very well over the last three or four games now.
“This division is very difficult and teams throw different things at you and you have to be good enough to cope with that. We are setting our stall out to hopefully be hard to beat and showing teams that we are able to express our talent moving forward.
“I am looking forward to us playing good football week in, week out as I think that we are getting settled and that we are beginning to understand each other. There is a good spirit around the place and I think the fans are seeing the direction that we are heading.
“I think the supporters have been great to me since I have been here, they are very supportive of the team and the away support has been truly magnificent. I think they are now seeing a type of football where the talent is being shown and it is certainly something I like to sit down and watch.
“I have watched two or three Peterborough games this week and they are certainly performing. They played very well at Charlton and they were unfortunate to lose that game. They beat Cardiff at the weekend, against a team I think will get promoted this year, so you can’t take them lightly and we have to make sure that we are fully prepared for what they can bring to the table.”
With the January transfer window now less than two weeks away, the Bolton boss hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making additions to his squad in the New Year.
“I don’t think we would be doing our jobs if we weren’t always looking and always trying to add quality to the squad,” Freedman added. “One of my job roles is to help the squad and to do that you sometimes need to add fresh faces and bring a new dynamic to the group and I will try and do that.
“I think I owe it to the players and the fans to add quality. As long as I make a good case to the board why we should bring in certain players for many different reasons, for investment or to add to the quality of the side, then that is a fair way to put it.”
