Under-21s: West Brom 2-1 Wanderers

Marvin Sordell, Andy Lonergan and Joe Riley all feature in away defeat at West Brom

Wanderers’ under-21s suffered a narrow defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the Baggies’ training ground on Monday afternoon.

First team members Andy Lonergan, Joe Riley and Marvin Sordell all played 90 minutes for John Henry’s side during their 2-1 league defeat.

The Trotters took the lead after 16 minutes when Joe McKee’s cross-cum-shot was fumbled and Blakeman was on hand to fire home from six yards, but Adil Nabi would level the scores for the home side soon after, curling the ball into the top-right hand corner from 25 yards.

And a Ben Hampson own goal would put the Baggies in front ten minutes later to end an eventful first half.

The Trotters continued to manufacture chances in the second period, with left-back Andy Kellett repeatedly breaking forward down the left and the full-back fired a left-foot effort just over the bar from 20 yards with 50 minutes played.

Wanderers pushed for an equaliser in the second period, but failed to find a way past the Albion 'keeper as the Whites tasted defeat in the Midlands.

Bolton’s final Group One league tie is on Thursday evening against Everton at the County Ground. Regardless of the result, Wanderers will be competing in Qualification Group Tier Two as the league structure is split into three groups after Christmas.
