“We showed determination in our defending and could have got something out of our attacks," says boss Dougie Freedman
After the resolute performance against Leicester City, manager Dougie Freedman commended his players’ attitude and application, particularly the way they bravely defended throughout the 90 minutes.
The Whites recorded their second clean sheet of the season, ensuring that the manager’s unbeaten start at the club was extended to two matches, following the weekend win over Cardiff City.
Freedman also felt that Wanderers did enough to win the game, although he accepted that a draw was a fair result.
“I thought it was a fantastic game of football and that we thoroughly deserved at least a point,” he said. “We showed determination in our defending and could have got something out of our attacks.
“Leicester have been building that team for a couple of years now and they showed why they are challenging at the top of the league. But we dug in and refused to let a goal go in, despite coming under serious pressure in the first 25 minutes.
“That gave us a platform in the second half to come out and attack and get the goal that we would have deserved.
“I felt that my players were up for the fight and challenge, and in that second 45 minutes they started to produce what I know they can in terms of quality.
“There are no complaints from me – we have come away with four points from two of the top teams in the league.
“We have a fantastic set of players at this club. They have a real desire to win football matches, to defend and attack in the right way. They come in every morning and work hard at their games and give 100 percent.
“We are striving to get consistency into our games and ensure that week in week out we play to the right level and keep the same standards.
“I’m looking at the situation right now with my players and they are quietly going about their business. If they put that together with the potential that they have got, very soon we will be climbing the division.
“I also thought the crowd really got behind us tonight. They could see we were in a real football battle and they stuck with us. I have no doubt that that level of support helps us tremendously when we were under the cosh.”
