Kevin Davies confident of an upturn in results ahead of a busy schedule of fixtures
Kevin Davies believes the Whites were unfortunate not to claim all three points against Barnsley on Saturday, and remains confident that the Wanderers can hit a winning run in weeks to come.The skipper had given the Trotters a first-half lead after he volleyed home a Chris Eagles cross – his fifth goal of the season – but a 65th minute equaliser from Craig Davies ensured the scores finished level.
Saturday’s result was the Whites third successive draw, but the 35-year-old, who celebrated his 600th career league appearance last week at Bloomfield Road, is convinced that Dougie Freedman’s side will find their winning touch.
Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw, Davies said: “We are only a few weeks into the new management and we are working hard and I am confident that we can hit this winning run - we haven’t lost in a few games but we need to win more games.
“The crowd seem a bit frustrated at times, but they have always been great here and get behind us and they expect that little bit more from us at home. We are also expecting a little bit more from ourselves.
“Barnsley didn’t have too many clear-cut chances and we probably did enough to win the game. We had a few half-decent chances so 1-0 should probably have been enough.
“But it is just a frustrating day at the office and we have got to move on, we know it is a tough league and we have to just keep going, work a little harder and be a bit more dogged and go onto the next game.”
Davies marked his return to the starting line-up on Saturday by scoring his fifth goal this season in front of the home crowd, but the heroics of Tykes stopper Luke Steele denied the striker a late winner for the Whites.
He added: “I hadn’t scored for a few games, and with competition for places it was good to get the first goal as it helped settle the team down a little bit. I had a couple of chances later on in the second half to try and win it, but unfortunately the goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.
“I hit the target and it would have been nice to have got the winner, but as I say we just move on now. We have got two difficult away games so we just get on with it and keep working hard.”
