Bittersweet For Chung-Yong

Korean left disappointed following Riverside result, despite netting his first goal in 18 months

He may have scored his first goal in 18 months, but Chung-Yong Lee said that he still left the Riverside Stadium disappointed as Bolton’s two-game unbeaten run came to an end.

The South Korean returned to the starting line-up for the first time in a month and marked the occasion with a well-taken goal just before half-time.

The previous time Chung-Yong scored was way back in April 2011 in a 3-0 win over West Ham.

Slowly but steadily, the right-winger has regained his match fitness following the broken leg that resulted in him missing all but two matches of last season.

And after proclaiming that he ‘feels good’ the former FC Seoul man believes he will be influencing matches in a positive manner on a more regular basis.

“My stats showed I played good game and I feel very good. I want to make goal in every game from now,” said Chung-Yong. “It been a long time that I played until full-time, so I enjoyed it but do feel very tired.

“It was long time since I score last – 18 months is very long time - so that makes me very happy. Everyone ran to me and that was a special feeling.

“I should have made goal for the team with my second chance, so that makes me feel disappointed. I would have been more happy if we won, but we lost.

“We played not bad because they had not many chances. When the game was 1-0, we needed more passes and try to keep the ball more.

“I thought I should have had a penalty in the second half, but that time has now gone.”

Dougie Freedman starts his reign at Bolton Wanderers with back-to-back home matches against the Championship’s top two, Cardiff and Leicester.

And with a full week’s training for the manager to implement his ideas, Chung-Yong is confident that Wanderers can give the new boss a flying start.

He added: “The team has got better in the last two or three games. Until the next weekend, the new manager will come into training and everyone will concentrate on that now.

“We have to concentrate and win our home games and that will help us to reach the top level again.”
