Mark Davies speaks about his goal which silenced Molineux and earned Bolton an important point on Tuesday evening
Mark Davies has revealed that he was happy to silence the boo-boys at Molineux on Tuesday night – and he remains confident that the two clubs will once again be contesting a Premier League fixture next season.
The former Wolves man received a heated reception throughout from the home fans, but he had the final word by scoring a fine last-minute goal to earn a well-earned point for the Whites.
Davies played 35 matches for the West Midlands club before joining Bolton in January 2009.
“Overall it is a good point away from home,” said the 24-year-old. “Molineux is a hard place to come and get results.
“I honestly never thought that we were going to lose the game. Even late on when it seemed the ball just wouldn't go in for us, I always felt that a goal was just around the corner.
“It’s a little bit hard coming back here with the way the home fans were. Wolves are the team I've always supported throughout my life. I still follow them to this day and want them to do well.
“I’m not really sure why the booing has come about - maybe it’s because of me winning the penalty here last season, because prior to that things were okay.
“There are five or six of the Wolves players that I’m still close to. Carl Ikeme the goalkeeper is actually one of them so I was having a bit of banter with him in the tunnel after the game.
“It is nice to come back to Molineux, seeing all of the behind-the-scenes staff. It’s where I grew up, I've got a lot of friends here and I still want them to do well.
“In an ideal world both ourselves and Wolves will be promoted back to the Premier League at the end of the season."

Davies’ goal on Tuesday was his second of the season and not too dissimilar to his equally as impressive match-winning finish at Sheffield Wednesday last month.
It also continued his uncanny habit of scoring with his more unfavoured left foot.
“I never seem to score with my stronger right foot,” he confessed. “I think I’ve only ever scored one goal in my senior career with my right foot - the one that won the club’s goal of the season against Blackpool a few years back.
“I honestly didn’t know what was going through my head, it was crazy. You don’t have time to think about stuff when it happens so quickly like that. I just remembering thinking to myself, ‘take a touch and get your shot away’.
“As I took my touch there was a defender coming towards me and closing me down meaning I had no choice but to shoot. I was just hoping it went in and it did.
“It’s a point gained more than anything. That’s all that’s important, not my goal."
Davies also added: “I thought we knocked the ball around and played really well. Our team spirit is really good and all of the lads are together, regardless of whether we are one or two goals down.
“We didn't change our philosophy and stuck to the same passing style.”
