Under-18s: Wanderers 4-2 Everton

Luke Woodland, Rob Holding, Zach Clough and Tom Youngs on target as scholars’ unbeaten run goes on

Wanderers’ scholars prolonged their unbeaten start to the campaign and extended their lead at the top of the Under-18 Premier League table with a hard-fought victory over Everton on Saturday morning.

Luke Woodland sent Bolton on their way, after winning possession before finishing from 12 yards following a neat give-and-go.

The visitors were quick to respond and soon had themselves level, and eventually in front, though prior to the break Rob Holding restored parity with a 15-yard strike following a corner kick.

David Lee and Tony Kelly’s side upped the tempo after half time and were to eventually run out comprehensive winners.

Woodland was hauled down in the area, with the prolific Zach Clough on hand to convert the resulting spot kick.

And just minutes later Tom Youngs extended the lead, latching onto Clough’s feed before dispatching beyond the onrushing goalkeeper.

“Overall it was a very pleasing performance and result,” head coach Lee explained. “The confidence within the squad and competition for places is good.

“Every player is working hard in training throughout the week to earn a place in the starting line-up.

“With five wins and a draw out of six league games and only one defeat since July , the squad are developing and learning well.”
