Under-18s: Wanderers 4-2 Norwich

Unbeaten run extended to ten after Tom Youngs' hat-trick helps secure home triumph

Wanderers’ under-18 side extended their unbeaten start to the season to ten games after a hat-trick from Tom Youngs (pictured above) secured a 4-2 victory against Norwich last weekend.

David Lee and Tony Kelly’s side are now five points clear at the top of the table having won their last eight matches in what is turning out to be a stunning season for the academy side.

The Wanderers started brightly forging out some good chances in the first half, before Youngs scored his first of the day from the spot after he was brought down in the box.

Norwich responded with a penalty of their own, but the Bolton youngsters replied with a powerful header from Rob Holding.

The Canaries found themselves level just before the break thanks to a well-worked set-piece, but the second half would belong to the Trotters and in particular Youngs, who would receive a call-up to the reserve side on Monday afternoon.

The 18-year-old found the net after some good combination play, and would strike again to complete his hat-trick and secure a hard-fought victory for the table-topping side.

Head coach Lee said: “I have been delighted with how the lads have been playing and the run now continues with eight wins and a draw.

“The players are playing well with great confidence, and this is carried through to our training sessions each day.

“I thought on Saturday we played well in the first half and managed to created several good chances which we converted.

“Then in the second half we dominated proceedings with some good quick tempo passing, and again creating plenty of chances.”
