Wolves (A) Preview

Roll on Tuesday evening! After the superb comeback against Bristol City at the weekend, Bolton head to Wolves with a spring in their step.

Molineux has been a happy hunting ground for the Whites in recent years. They have taken all the spoils on their last two visits – back-to-back 3-2 wins, with the most recent being in March when Marcos Alonso and Kevin Davies added to Martin Petrov’s penalty.

Both clubs ultimately fell out of the Barclays Premier League at the end of last season but they aspire for an immediate return this time round.

Wolves have started the campaign in impressive fashion under the guidance of 44-year-old manager Stale Solbakken.

The former Copenhagen and FC Koln boss has steered his side to fifth in the table at present, albeit recent results have been rather inconsistent – they have won two and lost two of their last four Championship matches with the latest scoreline being a 2-1 reverse at Huddersfield on Saturday.

There were several high-profile departures at Molineux in the summer as Steven Fletcher, Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis joined Sunderland, Stoke City and West Ham United respectively.

Malian midfielder Tongo Doumbia and former France Under-21 striker Bakary Sako were amongst those who joined the club in the last transfer window, while Jermaine Pennant recently penned a three-month loan from Stoke City.

Three points for Bolton on Tuesday would signal the first time this season that they have recorded successive league wins. Should it happen, it would take the club’s points tally to 17 and put them within sight of the top half of the table.

Wanderers are expected to travel to the West Midlands with a similar squad to that from the weekend win over Bristol City.

Such is the strength in depth in the Bolton contingent, there was no place in the matchday 18 on Saturday for Marcos Alonso, Zat Knight, Marvin Sordell or Gregg Wylde.

Andy Lonergan will once again miss out with a knee injury so Jay Lynch will deputise on the substitutes’ bench.

For Wolves, Karl Henry is expected to return to central midfield after sitting out the loss at Huddersfield through suspension after accumulating five yellow cards so far this season.

Now in his sixth season at Molineux, Wolves still rely heavily on goals from the former Manchester United academy graduate Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

He has five Championship strikes to his name so far this season and is expected to lead the line with Kevin Doyle on Tuesday evening.

The powerful 26-year-old joined Wolves from Plymouth Argyle in 2006 and has scored 55 goals in a little over 160 matches for the club. 

Gloucestershire-based official Lee Probert will take charge of Tuesday’s encounter. In his six games so far this season – all in the Premier League – he has yet to flash a red card.

His most recent outing was overseeing Norwich’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at Carrow Road on Saturday. The 40-year-old referee's last Bolton match was the 2-2 draw at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light towards the end of the 2011/12 season.
