Arrhythmia Alliance Partnership

Bolton Wanderers are delighted to announce Arrhythmia Alliance as its National Charity Partner for the 2012/13 season.

Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A) is the heart rhythm charity and works to promote better understanding, diagnosis and treatment for individuals suffering cardiac arrhythmias.

Trudie Lobban MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of A-A, said: “What happened to Fabrice Muamba last season put the deadly potential of heart rhythm disorders under a national spotlight.

“Fabrice was extremely fortunate to benefit from immediate medical assistance of the highest calibre, and was still very fortunate to survive. Each year in the UK, 100,000 people are not so lucky.

“We are honoured to have formed this partnership with the club, and believe that it provides an extremely valuable and exciting opportunity to increase the public understanding of heart rhythm disorders."

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a heart rhythm disorder, is the UK’s biggest killer.

One of the key elements of the partnership will be a nationwide campaign to reduce the 100,000 deaths from SCA each year in the UK.

Club Chaplain Phil Mason added: “Following all that happened to Fabrice we were overwhelmed by people writing to us with their stories of loved ones who had suffered in a similar way. Many sadly did not survive and the stories were often about the young.

“As a club we wanted to respond positively and partner with a charity whose drive was to make a difference in communities and to help save lives.

“Arrhythmia Alliance was formed following a very personal story of the founder who has now gone on to campaign at all levels to ensure the implementation of relevant training and the availability of life-saving defibrillators in public places.”
