International Watch: Five In Action

Chung-Yong Lee, Adam Bogdan, Sam Ricketts, Marvin Sordell and Gregg Wylde all in recent international combat

Five Wanderers players were in international action over the last week, partaking in various games for their respective nations across the globe.

Three players represented their senior sides – Chung-Yong Lee, Adam Bogdan and Sam Rickets – all in FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Chung-Yong played a little under an hour in a 2-2 draw away at Uzbekistan, with the Korea Republic now in pole position to qualify for the 2014 competition in Brazil.

The club’s reigning Player of the Year Bogdan was involved in two games for Hungary – a 5-0 away victory over Andorra and a 4-1 home reverse against the Netherlands.

Ricketts meanwhile appeared as a substitute in one of Wales’ two qualifiers over the last week, entering the action at half time in an away game against Serbia. The hosts ran out comprehensive 6-1 victors.

At under-21 level, Marvin Sordell and Gregg Wylde both enjoyed runouts in UEFA Euro 2013 qualifiers.

For England, Sordell started the away game against Azerbaijan, a 2-0 win, before being named as an unused substitute in the home triumph over Norway. As a result, Stuart Pearce’s youngsters topped their group and will face either Switzerland, Denmark, Slovakia, Sweden, Russia or Serbia in a two-legged tie to qualify for the tournament in Israel.

Wylde made a late substitute appearance in 3-2 defeat in Austria for Scotland, who were already unable to qualify.

All five players are expected to link back up with the Bolton squad at Euxton throughout the course of Thursday.
