Under-18s: Reading 2-3 Wanderers

Zach Clough, Georg Iliev and Elliot Newby on target as youngsters' unbeaten run goes on

Wanderers’ youngsters continue to set the pace at the summit of the Under-18 Premier League table, after coming from behind to secure three points away at Reading last weekend.

Zach Clough’s prolific form in front of goal continued, as he bagged a superb individual goal to level the scores after the hosts had gone in front after just three minutes.

Wanderers dominated the remainder of the opening half, with Clough rattling the woodwork and Elliot Newby going close.

After the interval Reading regained the lead, but again, David Lee and Tony Kelly’s side responded admirably and clawed their way back into the game.

Good work from Newby and Tom Youngs helped set up Georg Iliev, who crashed an acrobatic overhead kick into the net.

And three points were secured when Newby fired home from an acute angle late on.

“We deserved the win and played some good attacking football,” Lee said after the game. “The experience of travelling for an overnight stay and then to play the next day was a worthwhile exercise for the lads.

“Overall we have started the season very well and continue our unbeaten run. The competition for places is good, with all players working hard to play in the team.”
