Under-18s: Wanderers 3-0 Sunderland

Niall Maher, Tom Youngs and Zach Clough on target in friendly win

David Lee and Tony Kelly’s under-18s prolonged their unbeaten start to the season by comfortably seeing off their Sunderland counterparts in a friendly at Lostock at the weekend.

It took until the second period for Bolton to break the deadlock, as Niall Maher powered home Elliott Newby’s corner kick to send the Whites on their way.

Some instinctive play from Tom Youngs then doubled the lead, as he capitalised on a miss-hit goal kick before beating his marker and finishing from an acute angle.

And to add gloss to an all-round impressive display, Zach Clough’s hot goalscoring streak continued as the diminutive frontman turned home Youngs’ cross.

Academy head coach Lee said after the game: “We played really well and never looked in any trouble throughout the game.

“We created several chances in the first half, though we didn't convert any. Second half we totally dominated and showed a clinical touch in front of goal and hopefully we can continue to build, both as a team and individually.”
