Friend appointed for DW clash

Kevin Friend will referee Sunday’s clash at the DW Stadium.

The 42 year-old official, who took charge of the 2013 League Cup final, primarily works in the Premier League with this weekend’s game only his second in the Championship so far this season.

Friend last refereed a Bolton Wanderers fixture earlier this year at the Stadium of Light when Dougie Freedman’s men knocked Sunderland out of the FA Cup in a third round replay.

During the current campaign Friend has refereed 12 games so far, handing out 39 yellows and one red with his only dismissal coming in his last game where he sent off Sunderland’s Wes Brown against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
