Bolton loan Butterfield

Southampton defender becomes club's second loan recruit on busy deadline day

Bolton Wanderers have completed the emergency loan signing of Danny Butterfield from Southampton.

The experienced defender joins on a deal that will run until May 4.

Butterfield, 33, previously spent eight years at Crystal Palace before signing for Southampton in the summer of 2010.

Dougie Freedman, a former team-mate of Butterfield, said: “He’s an experienced player and will come in and give us some real competition for places.

“He’s a great character, is a fantastic professional and won the Championship with Southampton last season.

“These Premier League loans can help us maintain the form we are in as we approach the business end of the season.”
