Freedman - batteries recharged

Manager Dougie Freedman shares his thoughts after a busy week at the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers will return to Championship action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Charlton Athletic as they look to make it two wins out of the last three on the road.

With batteries fully recharged ahead of the final run of games, Freedman speaks about the decisions regarding Kevin Davies and Stuart Holden plus the loan captures of West Ham winger Robert Hall and Southampton defender Danny Butterfield.

“We have had a break as a squad, given the lads a few days off to recharge their batteries and spend time with their families. We have had a great time off and now we are really looking forward to the remainder of the season.

“It was a difficult decision regarding Kevin but it was a decision that was made of honesty towards Kevin, he deserves the honesty and respect when we made the decision to give him the time and opportunity to find himself a team for next season.

“Kevin is a club legend and always will be and it now gives the fans the opportunity to get right behind Kevin and give him the support he deserves.

“We have offered Stuart Holden a new contract but Stuart has gone out on loan. In one hand we are desperate for Stuart to stay for the future, he is a great guy and a top professional but he has been through a difficult period.

“Stuart was very open and said he needs a run of games and speaking to the specialists he needs a run of eight games to prove to himself that he is back and hopefully he will get that at Sheffield Wednesday.

“Hopefully everybody understands the decision behind Stuart’s loan and in the long run it is a win-win situation for everyone and he will come back to us in fantastic shape for next season.

“We have signed two players on loan from the Premier League. Robert Hall is an exciting young winger from West Ham and he will give us a bit of strength in the wide areas.

“The other player is Danny Butterfield from Southampton, an experienced player and he will provide cover in the full-back positions.”
