U21s: Stoke City preview

A look ahead to the youngsters' clash with the Potters

Wanderers’ Under 21 side make a return to league action on Monday evening with a trip to face Stoke City.

A 3-0 victory over Bury in the Manchester FA Senior Challenge Cup at Leyland a fortnight ago was followed up with an emphatic 4-2 win against Barnsley in the U21 Premier League Cup last Tuesday evening – form which the club’s youngsters will be hoping to emulate against the Potters.

With Sanmi Odelusi and Zach Clough enjoying impressive spells in front of goal of late including a brace apiece against the Tykes last week, the Whites will no doubt enter the game full of confidence.

They will however come up against a Stoke side who have developed a reputation for their unpredictability during the opening months of the campaign, with six defeats, three wins and three draws since the start of the season.

Having suffered a 2-0 extra time defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the U21 Premier League Cup in their last outing, the Potters’ youngsters will be hoping that their leading goalscorer Lucas Dawson can fire them back to winning ways against Wanderers.

With the club’s second string no doubt keen to continue their fine form of late though, it looks set to be a fiery contest come kick off under the floodlights.

For supporters wishing to attend the clash, the game is set to be held at Nantwich Town’s Weavers Stadium, Waterlode, Nantwich, CW5 5BS with kick off scheduled for 7pm.
