Dev squad: Manchester United preview

A look ahead at Monday's cup clash with the Red Devils

Wanderers' development squad welcome Manchester United to the County Ground on Monday evening for the club’s first Manchester Senior Cup game of the campaign.

Having secured their first win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Blackburn Rovers last week, Jamie Fullarton’s side will be hoping that their good fortune continues against the Red Devils.

The two sides only met a fortnight ago for a league clash at the Salford City Stadium where United ran out 4-1 winners, but the Whites will no doubt be looking to go one better on home soil against their local rivals.

Warren Joyce’s team kicked off their own cup campaign against Bury on Thursday evening, eventually securing a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win after a 3-3 draw in regular time.

William Keane was on the score sheet once more with a brace to add to his goal against Wanderers two weeks ago, with the young striker certainly making his mark after his comeback from injury.

The England Under 21 international was sidelined last season with a knee ligament injury after notching 19 goals for United’s youngsters, and looks set to reach a similar tally during the current season.

Fullarton himself looks set to name a similar side to that which faced Rovers at the Reebok Stadium, with Zach Clough and Conor Wilkinson both pushing for a place in the starting line-up after their goals last Monday.

The game itself will kick off at 7pm and entry is free for season ticket holders, £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

For those travelling to the match, the address is Thurston Rd, Leyland, PR25 2LF.
