International watch: Bogdan goes 90

Adam goes full game in World Cup qualifier defeat

Adam Bogdan and Hungary’s hopes of qualification for the 2014 World Cup took a severe blow after they were defeated at the hands of Romania on Friday evening.

It now means the most likely route to booking a place in next summer’s tournament in Brazil for Bogdan and co will be via a two-legged play-off, should they finish as one of the eight best runners-up in the nine UEFA groups.

Bogdan played the full 90 in Friday’s 3-0 defeat in Bucharest, which saw their Romanian rivals leapfrog them into second position in group D.

The Netherlands currently top the pile and are a near certainty to qualify automatically with three games remaining in the group.

Hungary’s next outing is at home against Estonia on Tuesday evening, with further qualifiers against the Netherlands and Andorra to follow in October.
