U18s: Bolton 0-6 Middlesbrough

Under-18s suffer defeat against their Riverside counterparts

Wanderers’ youngsters slipped to a 6-0 defeat against their Middlesbrough counterparts at Lostock on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking following the clash, coach David Lee admitted his disappointment at the result but called for an immediate response from his young side when they return to league action against Newcastle United following the international break.

“It was a disappointing day for us,” he said. “We conceded two goals to penalties and also four quality finishes by Middlesbrough.

“We did have a few chances of our own including a couple of one-on-one situations where Jamie Thomas could have put us two goals up early on, but their goalkeeper made some great saves to deny him.

“We tried hard to chase the game, but Middlesbrough hit us on the counter attack and that was ultimately the difference.

“We aren’t happy with the manner of the defeat, but we’ll be looking to put this result behind us as soon as we can.”
