Gretar Steinsson - Eidur Gudjohnsen a real asset for Bolton

Former Whites defender offers his views on the signing of Eidur Gudjohnsen

Gretar Steinsson believes that the acquisition of his fellow countryman Eidur Gudjohnsen will be of great benefit to Bolton Wanderers, both on and off the field.

Ex-Bolton full-back Steinsson, who turned out for Wanderers between 2008 and 2012, previously played alongside Gudjohnsen for the Icelandic national side.

Speaking exclusively to the club, the former defender says that the signing of Gudjohnsen is a fantastic deal for all parties involved.

“He’s a brilliant signing for the club,” Steinsson told bwfc.co.uk. “There was a lot of interest in him because he’s an impact player, and he did the same role for the national team who almost went to the World Cup.

“He will link up well with Lee Chung-Yong – I think he will suit him extremely well and he will be the ultimate impact player. He will calm games down when it is needed, or make the extra pass that is needed to create something.

“I’ve heard that he did well against Middlesbrough for the Under-21s, and many people said that the way he played would suit Bolton and their style of play.”

He continued: “He is a fantastic signing – not just because he is an Icelandic international or an ex-Bolton player, but he’s someone who can make the team better and who wants to play as much as he can.

“He will be great for the players already at the club, especially the younger players who will be able to play with someone of that pedigree, it is a fantastic opportunity to learn from him.

“He’s not just a signing for the club – he’s an addition for the players that are currently at the club and will make those around him better.

“I hope this will be a successful signing who can really deliver on the pitch.”
