Danns - A perfect return

Midfielder offers his thoughts following Wanderers' cup clash with Blackpool

Having re-joined the club on loan on Friday afternoon, Neil Danns admitted that he could not have asked for a better start to his second spell at the Reebok Stadium as Wanderers ran out 2-1 winners against Blackpool in the third round of the FA Cup.

After being thrown straight into the starting line-up against the Seasiders, the midfielder put in a stellar performance as goals from David Ngog and Jermaine Beckford secured the Whites’ progression into the fourth round of the competition.

Speaking to the official club website following the final whistle, Danns explained that his decision to return to BL6 was one which he had no qualms about making and that he is relishing what the rest of the campaign has to hold.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be here,” he said. “Obviously when I went back to Leicester I spoke to the gaffer about it and I had no hesitations whatsoever about coming back.

“It’s been great to come back and play in the FA Cup, but even better when it’s against your local rivals. We’ve gone out there and worked for each other and clawed our way to victory.

“In terms of the next round, it’s the FA Cup and at the end of the day, if we can get a good draw in order for us to progress, that would be the best scenario.”

With Bolton’s goals coming early on in both halves of the clash, the 31-year-old explained that he wasn’t surprised at the quality of the strikes produced and the cutting edge which Wanderers showed against Paul Ince’s men.

“It was a great strike from David – I’ve seen him do that in training, so it wasn’t that much of a surprise but credit to him for sticking it in the top corner and setting up Jermaine for the second.

“Everybody knows what Jermaine’s like in the box and that’s why he’s top goal scorer this season. Once I’d seen David square that ball, I knew where the ball was ending up when I saw Becks running towards it.”
