Mills hungry for more

Defender offers his thoughts following Wanderers' 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest

Having scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, Matt Mills admitted his delight at helping Wanderers secure a deserved point against Billy Davies’ Reds.

With the Whites having fallen behind to Jamie Paterson’s strike shortly after the restart, a determined performance from the home side saw Bolton draw level with 15 minutes remaining as Mills opened his account for the campaign.

A rarity for the centre half, the 27-year-old revealed that although he was pleased to get his name on the score sheet, ensuring that Wanderers’ unbeaten start to 2014 remained intact was his main priority.

“It was an enjoyable game,” he said following the final whistle. “Obviously it was nice to get the goal, but the point was more important and I thought we were unfortunate not to get all three.

“I’ve had a couple of chances cleared off the line recently, so it was nice to see it go in and help the lads out with a goal.

“It was a great delivery from Andre and I’m just pleased that I managed to get on the end of it.”

With the visitors coming into the game on the back of a 5-0 victory over West Ham United last weekend, Mills explained that the calibre of opposition such as Forest is something which the team relish coming up against.

“It’s a good test for us – they’ll be up the top end of the table at the end of the season and I think we proved that we can compete with the best of them.

“I’m really looking forward to the second half of the season. There’s more to come – hopefully we can get a couple of wins because it doesn’t take much to climb the table.”

He added: “We’re on an unbeaten run now and the confidence is picking up. I think the crowd are liking what they’re seeing and it’s been enjoyable to play in.

“Hopefully we can keep that confidence rolling into the next game and with any luck the wins will start coming.”
