U18s: Lee thrilled with performance

Coach offers his thoughts following his side's second consecutive league victory

Wanderers’ Under 18 coach David Lee admitted his delight at not only the collective team effort produced by his side during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Everton but the individual performances of his young team too.

With Jamie Thomas and Elliott Newby securing a second consecutive league victory for the club’s youngsters, Lee paid tribute to the players involved against the Toffees.

"I thought the performance from each individual was very good,” he enthused. “We had a bit of information about Everton and we know they play a certain system, so it was important that we got that across to the boys during the course of the week.

"It was pleasing because the players took on Everton's strengths, nullified them and then capitalised on them.

“When we got possession, we created chances and scored goals so we are extremely pleased with the result."

Having kept their first clean sheet since a stalemate at home to Stoke back in November, Lee explained that the achievement is down to the effort produced by his players both before and during the games themselves.

"We've still got an Under 16 at centre half,” he said. “We've bought in a new boy called Jack Greenhaugh who's only trained with us a couple of times so it just shows that the hard work they put in on the training ground to keep that clean sheet.

"I thought Harry Campbell in goal didn't have much to do throughout but at points in the game when a goal could have been decisive he made two fantastic saves.

"Overall all the units performed with stability and to the maximum and it was very pleasing to see.”
