Dougie Freedman's reaction to win over Vestsjaelland

Manager offers his views on Bolton's 1-0 victory over FC Vestsjaelland

Dougie Freedman says Bolton’s victory over Danish top flight side FC Vestsjaelland was a good test for his players.

Liam Feeney’s first half goal proved decisive on a wet and windy afternoon at the Harboe Arena Slagelse.

And the manager was happy with the examination his players received, as the preparations continue ahead of the upcoming Sky Bet Championship season.

“Once again, it was a fantastic workout for us,” he told bwfc.co.uk after the game. “We’ve picked opposition who are going to give us a real test.

“I feel that the fitness levels of the guys who have come in have been very good and we need testing. That’s exactly what we got today.

“We created enough opportunities to win the game more comfortably.

“In the last 20 minutes we did tire a little bit, but that’s to be expected at this stage. I’m very happy with where we are right now.

“We are trying to play in a different way. I’ve always said I want us to play the ball through midfield and be a little bit more patient.

“There are a few factors you look at at this stage. Obviously seeing the players get minutes under their belts is good, as is seeing our younger players involved.

“Also, let’s not forget, we won the game. You can never underestimate the confidence that gives you.

“We’ve had a tough week training the players, which is exactly what they need going into games.”
