Local man saved by fundraised defibrillator

Bolton Wanderers Community Trust's Hearts and Goals campaign plays its part in helping to save a life

One of the many defibrillators placed in and around the local community by the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust’s Hearts and Goals campaign recently helped save alife after a man collapsed during a game of bowls at Bradford Street Veterans Bowling Club earlier this month.

Fellow players reacted swiftly, grabbing the defibrillator before administering CPR to the unconscious man on the green.

Ambulance crews arrived minutes later before the gentleman was taken to a local hospital. He has since made a full recovery and been discharged.

Katie Wells, Health Education Coordinator for Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, said: “This incident illustrates the importance of having public access defibrillator readily available within our community, as well as the need for workshops that teach basic emergency life-saving skills.

“Bradford Street Veterans Bowling Club fundraised for a defibrillator and received training through the Wanderers Hearts and Goals initiative in November 2013 – we encourage others to follow their example.

“We are delighted to hear that the gentleman has made a full recovery, thanks in part to the swift actions of all those involved on the day.”
