Freedman - One of those days

Manager's reaction to Bolton's recent home game against Brighton

Dougie Freedman says the best side won in Wanderers’ recent home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Reebok Stadium.

The visitors from the south coast ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a Will Buckley brace, with his two well-taken strikes coming either side of half time.

Wanderers did have a Joe Mason strike disallowed for offside when trailing by a solitary goal, but in the end there was to be no way back when Buckley notched his second on 65 minutes.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Freedman said: “I felt that Brighton were the better side today, saying that, on a different day we could have won the game.

“At the start of the second half we were chasing that equaliser and if that had come our way the game would have taken a different path.

“We conceded a lot of possession against what is a very good Brighton side, though I still feel we created enough chances to win the game.

“We had an offside decision that went against us. Joe Mason has put the ball in the net and he was clearly in an onside position. When that happens, you just knew it wasn’t going to be our day.

“Brighton did get the rub of the green with one or two decisions, but when the chances came their way they took them very well with two clinical finishes.

“We had enough chances to have taken something from the game. We’ve played a lot worse than today and won games.

“It’s obviously a disappointing result given the recent run we have been on.

“We’ve put a lot of effort in over the last month or so and we just came up a little bit short today.

“We can’t let ourselves get too down. We’ve been performing very well of late, particularly at the Reebok, and we’ve now got to pick ourselves up and move on.”
