The 2013/14 campaign marked Andrew Lonergan’s second season as a Bolton Wanderers player and it was undoubtedly one in which the experienced shot stopper proved his worth.

Having featured solely in Wanderers’ cup outings against Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers respectively during the opening months of the season, the keeper was thrust into the fold in October following a knee ligament injury to Adam Bogdan.

Once installed between the sticks for the Whites, Lonergan kept two shut-outs in four outings during November as Wanderers picked up three wins on the bounce against AFC Bournemouth, Millwall and Watford.

The former Leeds man also denied Leicester’s David Nugent from the penalty spot in a thriller at the King Power Stadium back in December with the scores level in the tie, but his heroics were in vain as Dougie Freedman’s men were defeated 5-3 by the eventual league champions.

Upon Bogdan’s return to action in early February, Lonergan took his place amongst the Bolton substitutes for the remainder of the campaign but did feature in the club’s final day draw with Birmingham City.
