The elephant is back

Elephant complete with 'Supera Moras' motto to feature on new bespoke Macron match shirts

After an absence of over 40 years, next season will see the return of the Bolton Wanderers elephant to the club’s new Macron-designed shirts.

The elephant previously featured on the Bolton Wanderers kits within the club’s official crest, though this time round the current crest will be retained with the elephant located elsewhere on the new custom-designed shirts.

The new design will also feature the town’s motto, ‘Supera Moras’, meaning ‘Overcome Delays’. The motto was originally used on the Bolton Wanderers crest during the halcyon days in the 1920s, when the club won the FA Cup three times in six years, including the first ever FA Cup final at Wembley in 1923.

Richard Gough, head of commercial for Bolton Wanderers, said: “When we looked at the elephant design from down the years, the hand-made nature of the badges from that era meant there were no two alike.

“Without a single reference point, we had the opportunity to update the design for the 21st century in such a format to be trademarked as our own and for it to be more easily reproduced both in print and on fabrics.”

Kit designers and new stadium naming rights partners Macron have been working to include the new design within the shirts for next season.

Macron research and development style manager Amedeo Iossa said: “The new elephant motif is one of a number of unique and exclusive elements that we have been working with the club to incorporate into the gamesets for next season.

“We are very proud at Macron that the reintroduction of such an iconic symbol for the club has coincided with the beginning of our new partnership.”
