Neil Lennon - Duo are proven at this level

Manager praises recent signings Stephen Dobbie and Lawrie Wilson

Neil Lennon has backed new signings Stephen Dobbie and Lawrie Wilson to deliver after the duo signed contracts with the club earlier this week.

Released by Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic respectively at the end of last season, they both impressed the Northern Irishman as they enjoyed successful trials at Macron Stadium during pre-season.

Now in line to make their Wanderers debuts against Derby County in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship opener, Lennon has praised the pair for what they bring to the squad.

“Stephen is a player I have liked for quite a while,” he said. I know him from his time in Scotland. He’s won promotion a few times from this division so knows how to get it done.

“He’s only 31 so he’s not over the hill. He’s had a good pre-season, has a goal in him, sees a pass and he’ll be a good foil for Clough.

“It’s just strength in depth really. Lawrie is the same. He’s proven at this level and has come in and done well in pre-season, so we offered him a contract and he accepted.

“We needed strength in certain areas and they certainly both provide that.

Lennon continued: “I’m pretty happy with the other players we’ve brought in. Amos, Madine and Derik will make us better and we’ve still got Max Clayton to come back.

“We’ve got a good nucleus of a squad but we are always looking to make it better. A few options might come up in the next few weeks - I’m hoping we can bring one or two more in.”
