Zach Clough – We got the job done

Forward shares delight with club after Wanderers secure victory over Brighton

Zach Clough was delighted to see Bolton Wanderers return to winning ways as they recorded a 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The forward scored the Whites’ winner shortly after the hour-mark with what was his sixth goal of the season, ending Bolton’s three-game losing run in the process.

And while Clough conceded it was not the best performance from either himself or the team, he was just happy to see the Trotters pick up all three points.

“It was a massive win for the lads,” the 19-year-old said. “We knew before the game that we had to win.

“It didn’t matter how as long as we got three points. It wasn’t the best game but we got the job done – that’s all that matters.

“I found it hard today. It is difficult at this level. It wasn’t my best game today but I got the goal and we won.

“We switched things with about ten minutes to go in the first half, with me playing more centrally to save my legs a bit as I was getting a bit tired from tracking back!

“I prefer playing through the middle because I can feel I can express myself more. I can get the ball and just play and do what I can do.

Clough continued: “We’re now nine points clear of the relegation zone too so that’s good news.

“We’ve climbed a few places in the table, and have overtaken Brighton in the process, so that highlights how important it was for us to win today.

“Tuesday is a massive game for us against Reading. It’s similar to today. Hopefully we can come out with the win. Again the performance and score don’t matter as long as we get the result.”
