Neil Lennon happy with 'ugly' Millwall win

Manager admits his side were not at their best in home victory over Millwall

Neil Lennon was pleased his side were able to win ugly following after Bolton claimed three home points against Millwall.

Adam Le Fondre’s well-taken first half brace proved decisive at Macron Stadium, in a game that was otherwise largely eventless.

And whilst admitting his side were not at their best, the manager was happy to claim victory to ease any lingering worries of being sucked into the lower reaches of the Sky Bet Championship table.

“It’s a very welcome victory. We probably haven’t played as well as we have in recent games, but we got the job done in the end.

“To win and keep a clean sheet is fantastic, and it’s very important for where we are right now.

“It was a bit of an ugly win, if you want to call it that.

“Adam’s goal record speaks for itself. We were very pleased when we were able to bring him here in January, and already he’s our joint second top scorer. His two goals today were fabulous.

“Once we got the opener I thought we sat in a little bit and were tentative in our play. We didn’t really pass the ball anywhere near well enough and struggled to get Eidur in the game.

“We just dropped off far too deep at times, but we’re saying this having won the game. We shouldn’t be too critical because the players are giving us everything right now.

“We’ve been trying to get Tom Walker in the side for some time now, and Saidy’s injury in the warm up kind of forced our hand a little.

“Saidy came in from the warm up and complained of a bit of a problem with his glute. Sometimes it’s difficult to throw young players in, but we went for it and Tom was superb. He almost capped his performance off with a goal from the free kick.

“Ben Amos had a very good game for us once again, and made a crucial save for us. I can certainly be very pleased with his performances.

“We’ve been very good at home since we came in. We’ve lost just once in the league. Now, our away form has to be much better. That has to be the target going forward.”
