U18s: Bolton 1-1 Blackburn

Young Whites pegged back by local rivals Blackburn on Saturday

Wanderers’ Under-18s were held to a draw for the second successive game despite taking the lead, as the youngsters’ latest league outing ended in stalemate against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Unbeaten in their last two matches, the Whites started brightly and took an early lead after Chris Cvetko and Danny McKenna combined well to play in Tyrell Palmer, the midfielder firing across goal with a fine finish from 12 yards.

Despite Bolton pressing for a second, the scores were level on the half-hour mark as Blackburn equalised.

McKenna, Nathaniel Phillips and the returning Jamie Thomas all missed chances to put the Trotters back ahead in the second half, while Will Jaaselainen produced a good reaction save at the other end to keep the scores level, but Wanderers' efforts for a late winner were in vain as they ended up settling for a share of the spoils.

Speaking following the final whistle, coach David Lee was pleased to be able to field two Under-16s players in the starting XI as attention begins to turn towards next season.

"We pressed hard throughout the first half and created a couple of good opportunities. We were unlucky to go in at the break with the scores level.

"I introduced two under-16s to start the game so it was pleasing to see them get minutes under their belts as the development continues ready for next season."
