Derik happy to play his part

Defender eyeing up maximum points ahead of weekend trip to Deepdale

Derik Osede is happy to once again show his versatility when Bolton Wanderers travel to Preston North End on Saturday.

Neil Lennon has fielded the Spaniard at right-back in recent matches, but will be forced into a defensive re-shuffle for Saturday’s trip to Deepdale having lost Prince-Desire Gouano to suspension.

Traditionally a centre-back during his time at Real Madrid, Derik told bwfc.co.uk how he is happy to play wherever the manager needs him as he continues to adjust to English football following his summer move to Macron Stadium.

“It is a different position for me but I don’t mind where I play to be honest,” the 22-year-old said. “The most important thing is to play and to help the team.

“We have some amazing players at this club. In my position we have David Wheater, Dorian Dervite and Prince. I am enjoying playing with them all.

“We are all comfortable playing together. We are team-mates and all do our best to help one another.”

Having now overcome a disrupted start to his own Bolton career through a mixture of injury and suspension, Derik is eager to make up for lost time as the Trotters look to climb the Sky Bet Championship table, starting with their Halloween visit to Deepdale.

“I think we are playing good football and we have deserved more,” said the former Madridista. “We have to keep working hard and do our best to get three points on Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to facing Preston and want to win the game. It won’t an easy game but we are hoping to get a good result there.

“Derbies are passionate games and special to play in. They mean a lot to the club and to the supporters.

“I think this will be an amazing game to play in. We will fight to win the game and hopefully the supporters will enjoy it.”
