Report: Chorley 6-1 Bolton Wanderers XI

Alex Samizadeh on scoresheet as young Whites suffer first defeat of pre-season

Bolton Wanderers XI suffered their first defeat of pre-season as they were comprehensively beaten by Chorley on Wednesday night.

Three quick-fire goals early on from Andy Teague, Josh O’Keefe and Marcus Carver but the hosts firmly in control before the break in the Harold Taylor Memorial Trophy clash.

Alex Samizadeh pulled one back for the young Whites shortly after the restart, but further goals from Dale Whitham, Scott Leather and Sefton Gonzales wrapped up the scoring as Bolton fell to a 6-1 defeat at Victory Park.

Speaking following the game, Lee conceded the match was a challenge too far for his youthful side against the National League North outfit.

"It was too much of an ask for our young players," he told bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle. "Our lack of experience, combined with a lack of physical attributes, showed against a mature team throughout the game."

"The transition from Under-18s football to the level of Chorley’s first team was too big an ask. The players tried to compete throughout but without the impact required to make an impression.

"The set-plays Chorley scored from were quality goals, and a lack of maturity and strength prevented our players from being able to compete against them.

"However, there were positives for us to take from the game. Will Jaaskelainen was excellent, Cole Lonsdale worked really hard and Alex Samizadeh scored another goal.

"Overall the experience was a tough one for the players however, with the game highlighting the levels required even at non-league which our players need to look to as they mature and develop in their respective careers."

Bolton XI: Jaaskelainen, Spooner, Lonsdale, Honeyball, Lavelle, Perry, Marsh, Earing, Fearnley, Samizadeh, White.

Subs: Navarro, Aspinall, Brockbank, Moore, Everest, Grivosti, Politic, Pearson, Pasaricek.
