Mark Beevers - A tragedy if we hadn’t won

Defender delighted with Wanderers' win over Swindon Town

Mark Beevers praised Wanderers' patience as they ended their winless run in Sky Bet League One away at Swindon Town on Saturday.

Having dominated proceedings at The County Ground, a late Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill own goal clinched all three points for the Whites.

Pleased to see Bolton return to winning ways, Beevers shared his delight at the Trotters' hard work on the pitch getting the rewards it deserved.

"It’s a relief to come away with the three points," the defender admitted to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle. "It would have been a tragedy if we had not got the win because we deserved it.

"We had a way of setting up against Swindon because they play differently to a lot of teams we’ve come up against so far this season.

"We did that throughout the 90 minutes and carried on creating chances. Anything they threw at us, we dealt with and thankfully we’ve got the goal.

"We created enough chances to put the game to bed early on. We didn’t quite manage to do that but it is good character from the boys to stick together and keep doing what we’re doing. Sometimes it is quite easy to go a bit flat when you create that many chances and miss them.

"Although it wasn’t the prettiest of goals, we don’t care. We’ve done enough to get the win and thankfully we’re returning home with all three points."

Beevers continued: "Defensively it’s not just the back four, it’s a team effort. It’s the shape we had as well with Thorpey and Jay sitting in front of us as well. They’re defensive-minded midfielders so we had a good mixture in there.

"It was a difficult game because Swindon have players who float around the pitch and are difficult to mark, but I think we dealt with them all pretty well.

"We worked well together. It is all down to communication. Wheats and I can see where they are, where the ball is and where the opposition players are running to. It’s important for us to communicate with them and thankfully we did that well and got our rewards.

"We’ve got a local derby next week which fans and player alike will be more than up for. This is a good result for us heading into that.

"Hopefully we can replicate our performance today against Oldham at Macron Stadium. If we put in a solid performance and can create lots of chances, hopefully we’ll be able to score a few more goals as well."
