Preview: Five talking points ahead of Bolton Wanderers v Sheffield United

12 September 2017

As Wanderers prepare to host old promotion rivals Sheffield United, bwfc.co.uk highlights five talking points ahead of the Whites' Sky Bet Championship clash with the Blades on Tuesday night.

1. Old foes

Wanderers lock horns with their old Sky Bet League One promotion rivals Sheffield United on Tuesday night.

Having clashed three times last season, Phil Parkinson's men came out on top both times at Macron Stadium - recording a 1-0 victory in the league and 3-2 win in the Emirates FA Cup.

While it was the Blades who came out on top over the course of the season as they stomed to the league title, the Whites will be hungry to make home advantage count once again as they renew acquaintances.

Tickets for the game are available online, with fans able to buy in advance and print at home to avoid queues at Macron Stadium.

2. Injury news

Wanderers saw both Stephen Darby and Derik Osede limp off against Middlesbrough on Saturday with the duo unlikely to recover in time for Tuesday night's game.

There are also doubts regarding David Wheater and Filipe Morais after both players also picked up injuries at the weekend, and the game is likely to come too soon for Andrew Taylor.

Sammy Ameobi is not yet ready to return while Josh Vela remains sidelined.

3. Free concessionary upgrades

Concessionary season card holders wishing to upgrade their tickets for Wanderers’ Sky Bet Championship clash with Sheffield United can do so free of charge.

Available to supporters in possession of under-12, under-18, under-23, over-65 and over-75 season cards, fans are able to upgrade their ticket to a full adult for Tuesday’s clash with The Blades.

All adults wishing to use a concessionary season card simply has to present the card at the turnstile to gain entry to the stadium. No paper upgrade ticket will be needed for this fixture.

4. Signing session

Bolton Central will be hosting another signing session prior to Tuesday night's game.

Two players will be present in the club's retail outlet to meet fans from 6pm onwards prior to Wanderers' clash with the Blades. The players due to attend will be confirmed in due course.

With the Whites' 2017/18 home shirt back in stock in store, 'Wanderers Return', the club's 2016/17 promotion-winning commemorative book, available for a reduced price of just £10 and Bolton's official matchday programme, 'The Wanderer' also on sale, fans will have plenty of opportunities to get merchandise signed!

5. Under the lights

Tuesday night's game marks the Trotters' first midweek league game of the season at Macron Stadium.

Wanderers are unbeaten from their midweek games so far this season, beating Crewe Alexandra and Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup as well as fighting out a 0-0 draw at Birmingham City.

With the Whites still searching for a first league victory of the campaign, they will be looking to replicate their cup victory over Wednesday at BL6 against the Owls' fierce local rivals.

And with games under the lights at Macron Stadium producing a special atmoshphere, Bolton will be eager to ensure they bounce back in front of their home fans after disappointing defeats in their last three league outings.
