Phyllis Leyland 1924-2018

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Phyllis Leyland who has been part of the fabric of Bolton Wanderers Football Club for many years.

Phyllis first started to attend matches at Burnden Park in the early 1930s, her support never faltered throughout the good times and the bad.

Phyllis was part of the Bolton Wanderers Development Association Committee throughout her life and attended the meetings here at the club where she participated in voting on various projects throughout the business, while she was also the Promoter for the Lotteries for many years up until the 24th August 2000.

Back in the 70s and 80s Phyllis manned one of the town centre kiosks on Bolton Town Hall Square, taking Lifeline and Goldline payments from our supporters and selling our instant win scratch cards; something she carried on with after the kiosks had gone, having her own Goldline and Lifeline agencies and still selling scratch cards to her family and friends.

She knew how important the lotteries are to the Club and she was a force to be reckoned with even at 93!

Phyllis was a well-known face among the fans and we have received many comments from people saddened at her death, from as far away as Los Angeles and many from season ticket holders, all with their own memories of her which we are sure will be lovely for her family to read in time.

Every home match Phyllis made the journey from her home in Chorley on the club buses to the stadium, calling in to Bolton Central to hand in her Goldline, Lifeline and Scratch ticket monies and not forgetting a bag of chocolates for the staff before making her way to her seat in East Stand Upper where more chocolates were given out before she took her seat to support her beloved Whites.

She was fiercely independent and a truly amazing lady.

She will be missed by all who knew her here at Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

Our sincere sympathies go to her sisters, Ann and Margaret and all her extended family and friends.

Goodnight and God Bless Phyllis.
