Chinedu Obasi - I want to make this club proud!

Chinedu Obasi has vowed that he will “fight for every minute” as Wanderers look to secure their place in the Sky Bet Championship for next season.

Having completed a move to Macron Stadium at the start of the month, the striker has made three appearances for David Lee's Under-23s side as he continues to build up match fitness.

The Nigeria international completed 70 minutes for the young Whites against Millwall on Monday night, having previously scored in Bolton's second-string's victories over Burnley and Barnsley at Macron Stadium.

Now targeting a first team debut following the conclusion of the March international break, the 31-year-old is hoping to make an impact for the Trotters during the remainder of the season.

"I want to help the team any way I can," Obasi told bwfc.co.uk. "I’ve always wanted to be here, to play here [in England].

"I love scoring goals and am looking forward to doing great things and helping the team.

"I’ll try to do whatever I can to support the team, help the team. The most important thing is the team.

"We just have to make sure we stay in this league, that's the main focus right now."

Touching on familiar Wanderers face past and present, the striker shared his delight at linking up with Jan Kirchhoff once again, having previously played with the German at Schalke 04, and following in the footsteps of Whites and Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha in plying his trade at BL6.

"Jan and I had a very good relationship and it’s nice seeing him again. It’s an honour being able to play with him again,” Obasi said.

"Jay-Jay is a legend. I came here quite a long time ago to watch him, when I was about 15 or 16 with the Nigeria Under-17s national team.

"Being able to play for a club that he’s been with is a big pleasure for me."

He continued: "That was my first game in the UK. Then it was the Reebok Stadium, now it’s the Macron Stadium but it’s still the same stadium and it’s great.

"It’s a great honour to be here. I’m very delighted to be part of this great club.

"I will need every little support that I can get because the league is new to me, but I’ll do my best.

"I’ll fight for every minute to make this club proud."
