Jan Kirchhoff ready to seize opportunity

New Wanderers signing Jan Kirchhoff is “ready to go” ahead of a potential debut against Preston North End on Saturday.

The 6ft 5” German previously had spells with Bayern Munich, Schalke 04 and Sunderland before checking in to BL6 on a short term deal.

“I am really pleased to be here and happy to be back in football!” the midfielder told bwfc.co.uk after joining the club. “I am looking forward to the rest of the season and playing for this great club.

“I watched the Sunderland game last week and played in a couple of trial matches to try and prove my fitness. I am now just looking forward to playing some football and helping the team.”

Kirchhoff is no stranger to English game having notched up 22 Premier League appearances during his time with the Black Cats, and insists he is ready to challenge for his place in Phil Parkinson’s side.

He continued: “I spoke to the manager a few times and got a good feel for the team and his style. I am ready to go.

“I feel good in myself and feel this is a great opportunity for me. I hope I can beneficial for the club as well so this turns out to be a good move for both sides.

“I am grateful to the club and the manager for giving me the chance to play football again. I am looking forward to being successful with my teammates and winning as many games as we can.”

Wanderers have lost just once in the Sky Bet Championship at Macron Stadium since September and will be looking to extend a four-point advantage over the drop zone with victory in this weekend’s local derby against play-off chasing Lilywhites.

And having picked up four points from their last two outings, Kirchhoff wants to help the team continue getting positive results and secure their second tier status for next season.

He said: “I am a versatile player, so I hope I can bring a lot to the squad.

“Bolton Wanderers are a big club and they belong at least in this division, probably in the Premier League.

“So we are all going to work hard at our goal to stay in this division and hopefully we can be successful.”
