Behind The Scenes - An Update On The IberCup

Bolton Whites Hotel’s general manager Suzanne Speak has written an update on the IberCup which is coming to Bolton in May.

From 25 May to the 28 May 2019, the University of Bolton Stadium, Bolton Whites Hotel and the Eddie Davies training ground at Lostock will play proud host as we accommodate youth teams from all over the world.

Momentum is certainly gathering ahead of the IberCup in May and there is a genuine excitement building up around the University of Bolton Stadium in the lead up to what is one of the world’s largest youth football tournaments.

Yesterday it was confirmed that Spanish giants Real Madrid will be represented at the World Final, which follows on from the recent announcement that Gremio of Brazil and French outfit Paris Saint German will also be taking part.

Of course, our very own Bolton Wanderers will be taking part as well as Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona, Flamengo

Many more teams will be announced over the coming days and we’ll be confirming these on the club’s digital channels.

The Showcase tournament, which involves grassroots teams from all over the country as well as international teams, is also generating lots of positive interest and many teams have now signed up to participate in this once in a lifetime event.

We have already seen and heard wonderful and inventive tales of some great initiatives from teams in and around the local community to raise sponsorship for their entry fee.

Teams have been doing car washes, bag packing and holding raffles to generate the money to enter the showcase tournament

There is a lot of hype and interest which is great to see and this will only increase as we edge closer to May when the IberCup starts.

All the staff from Bolton Whites Hotel, Bolton Wanderers Football Club and the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust will get behind any team wanting to raise sponsorship or need support. Please get in touch with us if you’d like any more information or help.

Also, the Community Trust will be running its own mini tournament over the next couple of months whereby the winner from each age category, under 9s through to under 16s, will gain a free place to the showcase tournament.

All this information will be published on our official channels over the coming weeks so please stay tuned.
