Luca Connell earns first senior call-up for Republic of Ireland

Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell has earned his first senior call-up to the Republic of Ireland national squad for their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers away to Denmark on June 7 and at home to Gibraltar on June 10.

Having broken into the Whites' first team during the 2018/19 campaign, the 18-year-old featured in last year's UEFA European Under-17 Championships and has now been included in his national side's senior set-up.

Speaking about Connell's call-up meanwhile, Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy said: "Luca deserves this opportunity. With midfielders Conor Hourihane, Glenn Whelan and Josh Cullen all on play-off duty with their clubs in the coming weeks, this is the perfect chance to get Luca into the squad.

"He has had a fine season with Bolton playing 15 times in total and has impressed so many people."

Connell's progress with the Republic of Ireland will be documented in bwfc.co.uk's International Watch series over the coming weeks.
