🗞️ Preview: Lincoln City vs. Bolton Wanderers

Wanderers are back on the road with a trip to the LNER Stadium to take on Lincoln City, and in search of their first Sky Bet League One victory of the season.

Despite plenty of positives from Saturday’s draw at AFC Wimbledon, Ian Evatt and his team will have been hugely frustrated not to come away from Plough Lane with all three points having led 3-1 going into the final quarter of an hour of the contest. Although the draw, along with progress in the Carabao Cup last week means an unbeaten start to 2021/22

Lincoln have had a positive start to their own campaign with four points from the first two outings. Drawing on the opening day of the season at Gillingham, Michael Appleton’s side came from behind to beat Fleetwood Town last weekend.

Pre-match quotes: From the bosses

Ian Evatt: “I think they’re a really good team with a very, very good manager. He’s someone that I respect a lot in the game. It’s going to be a challenging game and a good benchmark for us. They got to the play-off final last season, and I see a lot of similarities between the two teams, with what we try to do, and the way we try to play. It’ll be a good game.”

Michael Appleton: “It’s a satisfying start to the season for us. To pick a point up at Gillingham is never easy and backing it up with a win at home is really pleasing. Bolton have a lot of momentum from last season’s success. They went on an incredible run and are a huge club. There’s a feel-good factor there and I’m sure Ian (Evatt) will be pleased with their goal tally.”

Team News:

Declan John will be assessed ahead of Tuesday evening’s fixture against Lincoln, with the Welsh full-back nursing a slight hip injury sustained during a collision in Saturday’s draw at AFC Wimbledon. Should this evening's game come too soon for him, Liam Gordon could slot in at left-back.

George Johnston could return to the starting eleven in place of either Ricardo Almeida Santos or Alex Baptiste. The central defender missed out on the starting eleven at AFC Wimbledon but impressive displays so far in a Bolton shirt could mean Ian Evatt recalls him into the team.

Former Wanderer Liam Bridcutt is likely to start for Lincoln City on Tuesday evening, with Michael Appleton having named the same starting eleven in both of their Sky Bet League One fixtures so far this term.

Tyler Walker restored City’s lead just after the hour mark and three goals in the final five minutes condemned Wanderers to a heavy defeat. Josh Emmanuel scored an own-goal before substitute John Akinde scored a brace.
