GOLDEN GOAL £1000 ROLLOVER WINNER – PHIL SUTCLIFFE

Our last match was a rollover for our newest fundraiser, the Golden Goal, and instead of the fabulous £500 prize we had £1000 up for grabs.

Unfortunately for Wanderers, it was Rotherham’s goal that went in at 17 minutes and 30 seconds. However, for Phil Sutcliffe, out of misery came some joy when he realised he had the winning ticket!

We asked Phil if he always buys the Golden Goal and what he thinks about the concept.

Phil replied: “I always buy a Golden Goal, I love it as it’s something a bit different.  When the time was announced, I was a bit nervous, to be honest, I thought I’d heard it wrong and I had to get my Dad to confirm it was right.”

Phil has a history in grassroots football, so he is well known to many fans and they have been quick to offer their congratulations on his win.

He told us how he got hooked as a fan at the Sherpa Van Cup Final versus Torquay in 1989, as it was his first game as a Wanderer. Phil's Nan actually paid for all the family to go and that was it, once in - never out!

Nowadays, Phil usually comes along to the game with his Dad and his daughter, Aimee, but this time he brought along his two nephews, Jacob and William too.

They were here for their first-ever Wanderers match with tickets that were bought by former BWFC employee Paul Holliday and gifted via Twitter.

Finally, we asked Phil if he had any plans for his winnings.

Phil told us: “We had a nice meal out on Sunday Night - The rest will be spent around the house I guess and paying for my expensive Van service last week!!”

We are delighted for Phil and his family and thankful to all our fans who buy their Golden Goal tickets at our home games.
