Under-23s Head Coach

David Lee

Academy Staff

Date of birth

David Lee took charge of Wanderers' Under-23s side following the appointment of his former Bury team-mate Phil Parkinson as manager in June 2016.

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Lee enjoyed a 15-year playing career, mainly in the North West of England.

Lee was born in Whitefield, Lancashire and began his career at Bury where he made over 200 appearances and scored 35 goals.

He then moved to Southampton in a £350,000 deal. However, he made only 20 first team appearances before being loaned out to Bolton in 1992.

He signed for Wanderers on a permanent deal later that year. He made 147 appearances in a five-year spell.

During his time at Bolton, Lee helped Colin Todd’s side to win the First Division in 1997 and played in the 1995 League Cup Final against Liverpool.

In 1997 Lee joined Wigan Athletic for £250,000. He also played for Blackpool on loan, Carlisle and Morecambe.

After his retirement from football he became a coach with Wigan Athletic before returning to Bolton Wanderers to become Assistant Academy Director in 2008.

Later serving as the club's Under-18s coach, he stepped up to take charge of Wanderers' Under-23s side ahead of the 2016/17 season.
