Having twice served as Wanderers' Interim Manager, Jimmy Phillips returned to his role as the club's Academy Director following the appointment of Phil Parkinson in June 2016.

Born in Bolton, Phillips enjoyed two stints with the Whites during his playing days, initially spending four years at Burnden Park at the club between 1983-87 after starting his career with the Trotters, making 108 appearances.

In 1987 he signed for Scottish club Rangers before returning to England a year later to sign for Oxford United. He made 79 appearances for Oxford, scoring eight goals.

In 1990 he signed for Middlesbrough where he made 139 appearances and scored six goals, before returning to Wanderers in 1993.

Going on to finish career with the club, he twice helped Bolton win promotion to the Premiership.

First coming via the play-offs in 1994/95, he was also a member of the side that won the Division One title in 1996/97, while Phillips also played in the 1995 League Cup Final against Liverpool.

Hanging up his boots after the turn of the millennium, he returned to Bolton as a youth coach before being made Academy Director.

Phillips also went on to enjoy stints as Intermin Manager in October 2012 and between March-June 2016 following the departures of Owen Coyle and Neil Lennon respectively.
