Delaney is a former Republic of Ireland u-21 defender who was signed from Rochdale on deadline day in January 2020, having played under Keith Hill at the club.

He can play at centre-back or left back. The 6ft 5in defender was born in Wexford, Ireland, and made 42 appearances for Wexford, before moving to Burton Albion in July 2016.  The Irishman then joined Cork City on loan on a six-month deal where he made 30 appearances and won the league and cup double for the first time in their history. Delaney then joined Rochdale on a permanent deal in January 2018, and he was part of the Rochdale team that drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fifth round. He made 57 appearances for Rochdale, then he joined AFC Wimbledon on loan in September 2019, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal.
